If anyone knows how to beat a good idea (or, at least, an idea) into the ground, it’s Hollywood. Ever since the success of the remake of “The Ring” there have been a rash of Asian horror films being remade for American audiences. Because, lord knows, reading a subtitle would surely kill us all.

The latest is “The Eye,” starring Jessica Alba as a woman who receives an eye transplant which enables her to see into the supernatural world. The film actually shot last Autumn, but Alba was in Vancouver over the weekend for some re-shoots. Not usually a good sign. I guess we’ll have to wait until February to see if this thing is any good, but I’m gonna go out on a limb with a resounding “no way in Hell.”

Oh, and guess who one of the producers is? Nah, never mind, I’ll just tell you: Tom Cruise, that’s who. Yep, Maverick himself–which is really hilarious after the rumors in the Spring of 2005 that Jessica Alba was approached by Tommy Boy for a somewhat different role, that of Mrs. Top Gun.

Instead she said yes to this bomb. And, yet…I’d still say she got the better deal.
