Nicole Richie surrendered to the Lynwood jail on Thursday afternoon to begin her 4 day sentence on her DUI conviction.

Less than 2 hours later, Nicole Richie walked out of jail, a free woman. Let’s hear it for our justice system!

Records show Nicole checked in at 3:15 p.m. and was released at 4:37 p.m. She was assigned to a cell–perhaps the Paris Hilton Memorial Cell– where she spent 35 minutes. When I say I blinked and I missed the whole thing, I pretty much mean that literally. Geesh.

So, just to recap: Richie pled guilty to driving down the wrong side of the freeway and was legally drunk at the time. She spent a whopping 82 minutes in jail. That’s about 1 1/2% of the time she was sentenced for. Anyway want to get pissed and do the math on Lilo’s 1-day sentence? Put it this way: she probably won’t even have to get out of her car.
