People Magazine has named its 10 Best Dressed Stars of 2007.

They are:

Beyoncé Knowles – The Showstopper
Cameron Diaz – The Legs
Katie Holmes – The Classic
Penélope Cruz – The Continental
Jessica Biel – The All-American
Drew Barrymore – The Chameleon
Jennifer Lopez – The Glamour Girl
Reese Witherspoon – The Celeb Next Door
Gwen Stefani – The Trendsetter
Ali Larter – The Newcomer

I mean, c’mon now! This list is laughable. Katie Holmes…classic? Classic what? Classic old lady? Class Stepford Wife? And unless it’s a drag queen show, I’m not sure what Beyonce is stopping.

But no, this isn’t a joke–though some of the reasons some of these women were appears to be. Per Galina Espinoza, People’s Senior Editor:

“Katie Holmes is one of the most remarkable style evolutions. She’s always very simple, very elegant and her clothes fit her perfectly.”

Well, she’s simple–I’ll give them that; though I usually follow that up with “minded.” And given most of her clothes DON’T actually fit, it’s ironic Espinoza would use that as part of the reasoning she’s on this list.

Jessica Biel is “all-American?” Does she drape herself in the flag every time she goes out? Does Reese Witherspoon bake you a pie and bring it over to you (well, maybe she does)? It’s all so arbitrary, and, really, predictable and boring. Almost like the magazine just wanted to get on certain celebrities good sides. Gee, but that can’t be…
