Michelle Obama: topless on a Spanish magazine
The cover of the August issue of Fuera de Serie is one of those that will discuss. The image, by the artist Karine Percheron-Daniels, is a montage of the head of Michelle Obama on a framework of the 1800 Marie-Guilhelmine Benoist depicting a black slave. No coincidence that the title of the top service number, dedicated to Mrs. Obama, is titled: “The grandson of a slave, Lady of America.”
The editorial selection was not accepted very well overseas, especially from African-American bloggers. Critical in the image is not uncommon to come across the word “racist.” Of course, the style of the picture you can also discuss, but racist define a montage seems excessive.
This is not the first time that the media plays with the image of Obama. Already in 2008, the New Yorker had imagined future presidential couple as two terrorists in the Oval Office. The cover caused a sensation but did not stop the New York Post published a cartoon in which Barack Obama was depicted as a monkey.
