The actor, whose divorce from Katie Holmes became official last month, has not seen her daughter, Suri, 6 years old, in over a month – but the father and daughter are in constant contact, said PEOPLE source.

“Suri Tom speaks several times a day. Suri misses much,” said the source.

Cruise, 50, has been filming All You Need Is Kill in Europe, where it says the source, has a grueling schedule of work.

Suri, meanwhile, has a busy schedule now that he’s in school. Started first grade on September 11 in New York, where he lives with Holmes.

“[Tom and Suri] are very, very close,” the source added. “It is up to date with everything that is happening in your life.”

Suri and his dad spent time together for a fun-filled trip to Disney World in early August, which included a stay in the Cinderella Castle Suite.
