We take a look inside Dior’s latest campaigns
This week Dior has been enjoying a huge amount of press coverage with the unveiling of two new print campaigns and being the clothing of choice for a certain star on the Thor 2 red carpet. 3 Oscar-winning actresses have lent their style and fame to promote the brand this week.
Marion Cotillard adverts
Legendary British photographer Tim Walker captured Marion Cotillard in the latest ad campaign for Miss Dior. The shots were premiered online and feature the muse as the ‘radiant face’ for their handbag collection. Exuding elegance, Marion poses in clothing from Raf Simon’s 2014 resort collection in front of paint-splattered canvases with hues that complement the bags’ bright tones. Dior have branded the French beauty ‘the embodiment of high-colour elegance’. In typical Tim Walker style the shots stand as works of art, as if Ms Cottilard is part of a grand gallery installation. With minimal make-up, save her scarlet lips, she looks every bit the Dior woman.
Jennifer Lawrence campaign
In almost complete contrast to the acid-bright campaign is Silver Linings Playbook star Jennifer Lawrence in her third offering as a Dior muse. Her new print campaign was photographed by Mikael Jansson and shows a sharply-suited Lawrence in a series of menswear-inspired selections from the Dior catwalk. Like her previous campaigns she again appears with little make up and dewy skin, her hair pulled back into a stylized quiff. Jennifer was appointed as an ambassador for Dior just as she was on the brink of international stardom following her appearance in teen franchise The Hunger Games. The appointment proved a successful one, with the actress later wearing a Christian Dior Haute Couture gown to the Academy Award ceremony– and becoming talk of the town by falling up the stairs en route to collect her award. Her appearance in this campaign has earned her the cover of the print version of Dior’s bi-annual Dior Mag.
As the face of Dior beauty, Natalie Portman is not only expected to appear in the TV and print campaigns for the brand’s perfume and beauty products, but also to represent Mr Simon’s clothing on the red carpet. It’s a hard job, but someone has to do it. Promoting the new release of Thor 2: The Dark World this week Portman has premiered several looks from the Christian Dior house, from previous and current collections in what seems like a hectic tour round Britain and France. For the London showing of the film she chose a modified metallic dress from the recent Spring/Summer 2014 ready-to-wear show. Originally appearing on the catwalk strapless, the cold London weather seemed to have prompted the designer to create a long sleeved version for the American actor. She quickly changed into another tweed Dior dress for the after-party, a repeat of the dress she wore on The Graham Norton Show last week. Continuing in her promotional responsibilities she flew to Paris to appear on the red carpet with her husband Benjamin Millepied in an embroidered black tulle cocktail dress from the Spring 2013 Haute Couture show. It has recently been revealed that Portman is due to move to the fashion capital soon with her dancer husband, and as one of 3 faces for the iconic French brand it seems clear that she’ll be more than welcome.
