Emma Watson’s friends made 23 pinatas to celebrate her birthday.

The ‘Harry Potter’ actress – who celebrated her 23rd birthday in New York City last week (15.04.13) – was shocked by the effort her pals went to for her special day, as they spent hours handcrafting papier-maché models of her for each year of her life – including one of her iconic character, Hermione Granger, in the hit fantasy movies.

A source told The Sun newspaper: “Emma was gobsmacked when she arrived at the party to see all the pinatas. There was everything from her as a child, and as Hermione in the ‘Harry Potter’ films, to her in the Chanel advert a couple of years ago.

“They had even gone to the effort of stuffing a few of the pinatas with sweets and treats, so Emma could smash them open.”

Emma was also left blushing as her friends created a few extra papier-maché surprises – male body parts in a nod to her role in ‘The Bling Ring’, in which she stars as a fame-obsessed teenager who robs celebrities’ homes.

The ‘Perks of Being a Wallflower’ actress had more reason to celebrate as she was honored with the Trailblazer award for her blossoming movie career at the MTV Movie Awards earlier this month .

She said at the ceremony: “Watching the video clip of my work showed me most importantly how bad my hair was in the first ‘Harry Potter’ film but the cool thing is you have supported me in all of my awkwardness and helped me grow into the actress and person I want to be.

The 22-year-old actress – who appears on the May issue of British GQ magazine as her tattooed, pole-dancer character from ‘The Bling Ring’ – admits she is attracted to playing wilder roles at the moment because she never wants to be forced to play the same character.

She explained: “Really I was open-minded about doing anything, but the one thing I didn’t want to do was get myself into a corset because I was worried I’d never get out again.

“I knew it would be a really comfortable thing to do, but I felt… I had to dive into something really different. This has been a really big departure for me; it’s a really big character.”

Emma also revealed that while she loved playing law breaker Nicki in the upcoming drama about a group of fame-obsessed teenagers that use the internet to track celebrities’ whereabouts in order to rob their homes in Los Angeles, which was based on real-life events, she hated the character.

She said: “When I read the script and I realized that essentially it was a meditation on fame and what it’s become to our society, I had to do it. Everything that I felt strongly against — she’s superficial, materialistic, vain, amoral. She’s all of these things and I realised that I hated her. How do you play someone you hate? But I found it really interesting and it gave me a whole new insight into what my job, or my role as an actress, could be.”

Emma Watson is obsessed with being perfect.

The ‘Harry Potter’ actress has inherited her hardworking nature from her lawyer parents, but although she takes pride in every project she undertakes, she admits she can be very hard on herself.

The 22-year-old beauty told Britain’s Marie Claire magazine: “My parents have very strong work ethics and have instilled that in me; a love and a respect for what you do and taking pride in it. And then – and this is sort of irritating at times – I’m a bit OCD about

perfectionism.

“I’m my own worst critic. I always want to do better. I’m always striving towards the next thing.”

The petite star is due to return to her studies at Brown University this January and can’t wait to head back to the Ivy League institution as she feels studying keeps her grounded in the midst of her crazy Hollywood lifestyle.

She mused: “I think having time to step away and study really, really helps. It helps to give me perspective on things. To be around people who are living their

lives in different ways, who have different aspirations.

“It is a strange thing that I do and I can feel quite unnerving. It’s good to remember that it’s a bit mad.

“[Happiness] for me, its about finding satisfaction in the work that I do; it’s to do with having healthy relationships with the people I care about.”

“I wish someone had told me when I was fifteen” Accept the love you feel you deserve. “I would have behaved in a completely different way in my relationships, if someone had told me.

I like this idea of “quality control” is not really all that we have to accept in our lives. People speak of love as if it were something that happens … as if we were the victims in all respects, and the choices you can make, right or wrong. But women have a natural tendency to feed people and to care for it.
