George Clooney Auctions Gift Bags For Charity

Yesterday, QLu, the on line celebrity auction site, began a series of auctions on behalf of artists and their significant humanitarian efforts. Started by Susie Busch-Transou and her partner, Cindy Lee, QLu has raised numerous funds for celebrities’ favorite charities since its inception in March, 2007.

George Clooney is up his Oscar Nominee Gift Bag for auction to benefit his newly formed organization, “Not On Our Watch” (NOOW), a registered 501(c) 3 charity. NOOW’s mission is to focus global attention and resources to stop and prevent mass atrocities. “Not On Our Watch” has taken on the crisis in Darfur and is making strategic grants to aid organizations in the region and embarking on a comprehensive advocacy campaign.

Clooney’s Oscar 08 Nominee Bag and Oscar Pre-Party Gift Bag includes such goodies as Heineken Beer Tender, Marilyn Monroe ‘Classic Series’ wine goblets, exclusive spa packages including a gift certificate for a two night stay at La Costa Resort and Spa, Oscar Gold Havaianas, Swarovski Crystal Pet Collar and more. Clooney’s auction runs for 10 days, so there’s still plenty of time to place a bid.

Nicole Kidman Has Bad Judgment

I’m not just talking about that whole “I was married to Tom Cruise for 10 years(Tom: It was 9 years and 11 months)” debaucle. I’m not even talking about her deep, abiding love of the Botox (seriously, Nic, your forehead doesn’t move anymore and it freaks me out). No, this is about how–after almost 2 decades in the film business–she still seems to pick movie projects that have “this is gonna suck” written all over it.

Case in point: She’s going to produce, and star in, a remake of “How to Marry a Millionaire.” Anyone remember the original? It’s starred Marilyn Monroe, Lauren Bacall, and Betty Grable as three women on the hunt to bag themselves rich husbands.

Did I mention the original was made in 1953? Yeah, we’ve come a long way, baby! Though, according to the official announcement:

“Plot details for the updated “Millionaire” are being kept under wraps, but it is described as a complete overhaul of the original story.”

I guess a complete overhaul would entail it being three dudes trying to bag rich women (wow, there’s a new idea), but maybe I’m thinking too much inside the box. Maybe there’ll be space aliens or something in this one. Let’s not judge. I’m sure there will be time enough for that once the film is nominated for those Razzie Awards it’s sure to garner.

Seriously, Nicole, didn’t you learn anything from “The Stepford Wives?”

John Travolta and the Extra Large Ego

John Travolta is huge–HUGE–I tell you! Or, rather, he’s telling you. Yes, according to old JT he’s as big as Elvis and Marilyn Monroe, but only through the power of Scientology has he managed to avoid their fate.

All hail, L. Ron.

“I have fame on the level of a Marilyn Monroe or an Elvis, but part of the reason I didn’t go the way they did was because of my beliefs,” he recently told the Irish Independent.

Of course he doesn’t say how the cult controversial religion helped him, as that information? That’s gonna cost you. But I hear they’re giving out discounts if you buy a combo dvd pack of “Mission Impossible III” and “Wild Hogs.”

Travolta goes on to defend the “Church” with their standard “people are mean” mantra:

“People make judgments about it (Scientology), but often they don’t know what they’re talking about…We are only getting bigger and we help people all over the world, from disaster zones to drug rehabiliation.”

True. Of course what some people see as “helping,” others see as preying on the vulnerable. Potato, pahtato.

And, just me, or does that “bigger” part sound like a threat?
